Do you remember . . .

. . .the Winter Olympics being held in Albertville and Torino?  The French call Torino "Turin".  Well, if you always wanted to know what those two places look like when they are not covered with snow, here is your chance.  From where we are in France it seems that no matter where we go mountain driving is always involved.

So here are the mountains on the way to France-Italy border, and maybe a few on the other side. . .
Highway sign that has Turin (Torino, Italy) and Albertville, France
Tree line -- dark color in photo -- stops with top of mountain exposed rock -- too high for trees
Look carefully into some of the mountain folds -- the white is either snow or glacier that has not yet melted (shown here and in photo below)

Couldn't see all this without thinking of Greg -- there is a geological name for why a mountain gets shaped this way, I just don't know what it is (but I know Greg does).  It looks really awesome.
We have crossed into Italy and the first thing we saw was this old castle.
And then there was this castle  W A Y  up on a mountain -- this was the best shot I could get.  I don't know if I could get used to living in the clouds.

Wouldn't you say that this is pretty amazing scenery for the drive down to Rome?  Wait until you see what comes next! :)
